The most serious filing

His own mother filed a domestic violence petition against him.

On November 20, 2023, Jocelyn Ann Erickson — Rick Erickson's own mother — filed a domestic violence petition naming him as the respondent: Lee County Case No. 23-DR-035692. Three days earlier, on November 17, 2023, a vulnerable adult protection injunction was filed against him in Case No. 23-DR-036016.

Both are public filings by his own mother, listed in the Lee County Clerk's case index as disposed. This page states who filed what and when; it does not state how either case ended.

His former wife also filed a domestic violence petition.

Miami-Dade court records identify Milagros Cabrera as the petitioner and Richard Earl Erickson as the respondent in domestic violence Case No. 2006-032607-FC-04, filed November 16, 2006. The docket lists a temporary injunction that day. A separate dissolution-of-marriage case, No. 2006-026921-FC-04, names the same parties and lists a final judgment on November 9, 2006.

The domestic violence docket also records “Injunction Dismissed: Failure to Appear” on November 28, 2006, with the comment “WITHOUT PREJUDICE.”The case is marked closed. These records document a petition and a temporary injunction, followed by dismissal; they do not establish a final finding of abuse. Together with his mother's later petition, they show domestic violence filings involving two women in his family — not a proven pattern of domestic abuse.

The Short Version

Is Rick Erickson a man of transparency and integrity?

Transparency means showing the documents when asked. Here, the record answers for him:

  • His own words on the liens. On video he says "I didn't do the work." In sworn lien filings against his mother's properties, his company stated it "furnished labor, services or materials" and claimed $345,000, $29,000, $68,150 and $1,121,250 for it. A judge discharged two of those liens as "fraudulent" and ordered him to repay $119,981.00.
  • His family story. His campaign describes raising his daughters as a "single parent," yet his divorce docket shows a motion for failure to pay child support and a referral to collections.
  • His associates. A registered sexual offender appeared in the campaign's own paid endorsement graphic and at campaign events — and the campaign has not explained why.

Every voter can read these records. He has never produced his. Judge for yourself.

Questionable Campaign Staff

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Joseph John Durie is a registered sexual offender. The registry lists an out-of-state conviction for indecent assault, with a disposition of "Guilty/Convict." His registry flyer is dated 06/19/2026.

Durie, listed as "Joe," appeared in an official campaign endorsement graphic marked "Paid for by Rick Erickson for Cape Coral Mayor." Photos show him at Erickson campaign events, standing at the campaign tent and under the "Pick Rick" banner.

In his own words

"Found me guilty."

In an interview with The Nik & Colten Show, Rick Erickson says: "So the legal system down here, which is how it is, found me guilty of being a contractor, doing work on a house, and all that."

In the lien case, a Lee County court found he was "not a properly licensed contractor," discharged "the fraudulent liens" on both properties and ordered him and Norsemen Ops LLC to repay $119,981.00.

In another clip, standing in front of a City of Cape Coral "Stop Work Immediately" notice, he says: "I didn't do the work."

Yet in sworn lien filings against his mother's properties he stated that his company "furnished labor, services or materials" — claiming $345,000, $29,000, $68,150 and $1,121,250 for it.

His words, his filings, the court's ruling — which one is true?

Divorce & Child Support

His ex-wife filed for divorce in 1995. That case, No. 95-DR-009017 (UCN 361995DR009017A001CH), produced filings for 18 years. The public court index shows a Motion for Failure to Pay Child Support filed by his ex-wife in 1996, three contempt motions filed by Erickson (1996, 1999, 2001), and a referral to collections in 2013. His campaign describes raising his daughters as a "single parent."

Two Homestead Exemptions?

Florida law (§196.031) allows only one homestead exemption per household. Property records appear to show a homestead exemption on his home at 1204 SE 12th Street, and another on 1218 SE 12th Terrace, which he co-owns with his daughter. Mr. Erickson should explain which home is his homestead.
